Meta celebrity AI chatbots are now available to all users in the USA. These chatbots were first introduced at Meta Connect event in September and are powered by Meta AI’s custom-made Llama 2 language model. The chatbots are designed to engage with users based on specific contexts and are available across messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. The chatbots feature a variety of AI-backed personas, including celebrities such as Tom Brady, Kendall Jenner, and Snoop Dogg.

The celebrity images are not purely videos but can be manipulated generatively to function as novel animations. The chatbots can help with planning trips, answering questions, and generating images from text prompts. The assistant will also integrate real-time results from Microsoft’s Bing search engine, giving it access to current information.

On Wednesday, Meta said all US users can now message the chatbots through WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. To do so, simply start a new chat in any of the apps. An option should appear allowing you to access or create “AI Chat.”

You’ll then be given the option to message a long list of chatbots that use the likeness of celebrities and influencers, including former NBA player Dwyane Wade, socialite Paris Hilton, and YouTube Star MrBeast.

Meta’s strategic move

Meta strategically incorporates AI into its products, staying at the forefront of technological advancements. The recent addition of an AI chatbot to WhatsApp aligns with this commitment, offering a glimpse into the future of AI-driven communication. Initially available to users in the United States, it signifies a significant leap in enhancing user engagement.

But don’t expect the chatbots to be based on the celebrity’s actual life or personality. The chatbots merely assume the personas of fictitious characters. For example, the Snoop Dogg chatbot operates as “Dungeon Master,” and specializes in narrating text-based RPGs similar to Dungeons and Dragons. If you ask the bot about Snopp Dogg’s rapping career, you’ll be rebuffed. “I am but a humble Dungeon Master, not a musician or songwriter,” it’ll say.

The same is true if you talk to Bru, the sports-related chatbot that uses former NFL player Tom Brady’s likeness. Bru told us he’s married when the real Tom Brady famously divorced supermodel Gisele Bündchen. The other limitation is that the chatbots merely display a looping video of the celebrity reacting to your messages with different facial expressions. The chatbots don’t talk back. Still, Meta is hoping the AI characters will appeal to users looking for more fun and variety with today’s chatbots. It also has ambitions to pair the chatbots with voice and video in the future.

In addition, Meta says “search is coming to more of our AIs. Two of our sports-related AIs, Bru and Perry, have been serving up responses powered by Bing since day one. And now we’re rolling out this functionality to Luiz, Coco, Lorena, Tamika, Izzy and Jade, too.”

The other improvement the company is working on involves allowing the chatbot to remember conversations. “That means you can return to a particular AI and pick up where you left off,” the company added, which could help make the chatbots seem a little more human.

WhatsApp’s new AI shortcut

The WhatsApp beta for Android introduces a shortcut button in the ‘Chats’ section, providing users swift access to Meta’s AI chatbot. Placed conveniently above the ‘New Chat’ button, this shortcut simplifies user interaction, making the AI assistant readily available for various tasks without navigating through conversation lists.

Capabilities of Meta’s AI chatbot

Powered by cutting-edge technology, including the Llama 2 model and Meta’s latest language model research, the AI chatbot is versatile. It can answer queries, plan trips, and provide real-time web results through collaboration with Microsoft’s Bing Chat. Notably, users can generate realistic images using a simple ‘/imagine’ command, showcasing the AI’s versatility.

Enhancements to WhatsApp beta

Simultaneously, the WhatsApp beta for Android introduces additional features, such as a status update filter for better organization. Users can now view status updates in a vertical list, simplifying access to muted updates. The inclusion of a “See all” button facilitates a comprehensive catch-up on shared content, ensuring users stay connected without missing any updates.

Upgrading daily activities with AI assistance

Meta envisions its AI assistant seamlessly integrating into users’ daily activities. Whether settling group chat debates, offering recommendations, or delivering a dose of humor, the AI chatbot aims to be a reliable companion. The company’s commitment to providing these features free of charge underscores its dedication to enhancing user experience and accessibility.

  1. It was great seeing how much work you put into it. The picture is nice, and your writing style is stylish, but you seem to be worrying that you should be presenting the next article. I’ll almost certainly be back to read more of your work if you take care of this hike.
