Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is set in the fictional dystopian city-state of Khansaar. The film follows the friendship between Deva (Prabhas), a tribesman, and Varadha (Prithviraj), the prince of Khansaar.

In the year 1985, Deva and Varadha are inseparable companions in Khansaar, a powerful city-state ruled by Varadha’s father, Raja Mannar. Despite their different backgrounds, with Varadha being the son of the city’s ruler and Deva coming from an underprivileged background, their economic status never comes in between their friendship.

When a coup d’état is planned by his father’s ministers and his relatives, Varadha enlists Deva’s help to become Khansaar’s undisputed ruler. Deva protects his best friend from his own stepbrother, Rudra, and risks his life so that Varadha could get what he deserved.

The royal guards arrive at Deva’s doorstep one day, and after killing his father, they wanted to plunder his house and take his mother into their custody. Deva tries his best to save his mother, but the royal guards were given the freedom to do whatever they pleased as long as they were not violating any clause of the constitution, which was referred to as the Nibhandhan.

At this juncture, Varadha arrives at the scene, and he asks the soldiers to step down. The leader of the army doesn’t agree, and to make him adhere to his command, Varadha puts him in charge of a territory and gives him the legislative position of “Sardar,” i.e., head of their independent territory.

The film is told in a series of flashbacks narrated to Aadhya (Shruti Haasan), whose father has fallen foul of some dangerous folks. Aadhya, who has been living in the US, has come to immerse her mother’s ashes in India and suddenly sees her as the target of an assassination attempt.

The film’s initial story was pitched from Neel’s debut film Ugramm (2014) and is the maiden part of a two-part film. The ending of the movie shows that Varadha and Deva became enemies from friends. The incident that occurred between 2010 and 2017 damaged their relationship in such a significant way. However, fans will get to know about the truth of this incident and the reason behind their rivalry in Salaar part 2.
